BJP 'fatwa' to leaders: Skip wedding of Karnataka mining baron's daughter - Times of India

BENGALURU: Some BJP leaders are expected to skip the wedding of mining baron and former BJP minister G Janardhana Reddy's daughter+ in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Party sources said the central leadership has issued an unwritten instruction to stay away from the wedding in the backdrop of the aam aadmi struggling to meet their expenses following the demonetization drive+ to fight corruption and black money+ . "The party has not issued a formal order but the party has said it's better to stay away from the big fat wedding in these times," a senior leader said.

Another leader said some prominent leaders, including BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa, may attend the event considering that Reddy had served the party and his confidant B Sriamulu, an influential leader in Hyderabad-Karnatak region, is with the party .Union ministers and other pro minent national leaders may skip it, he added.



Prominent leaders from the Congress and JD(S), including chief minister Siddaramaiah, former PM H D Deve Gowda and state JD(S) president H D Kumaraswamy , are still not sure whether they'll attend the event. Congress and JD(S) sources said they are wary of attending the lavish wedding.

"Siddaramaiah had launched a relentless campaign against the mining scam when he was the leader of the opposition and had demanded a CBI probe.What message would he be sending if he attends this marriage?'' asked a Congress leader.

SRK not going

Reddy's family sources denied they had invited Shah Rukh for the event. "We had only invited multilingual singer Sonu Nigam and he is yet to confirm,'' they added. Many Sandalwood, Kollywood and Tollywood stars are also planning to skip the event.
